Develop the essential skills to safely support a client to self-administer medications. Over two days of classroom training, this skill set will prepare you to provide medication assistance in the community services and health care industries.
Course Includes
This skill set will equip you with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively assist clients with their medication, ensuring better health outcomes and increased confidence in medication management.
Includes two (2) units of competency:
- HLTHPS006 Assist clients with medication
- HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems
Course requirements
Post training, to gain accreditation a workplace assessment must be completed and submitted. Workplace assessments involve providing examples of specific tasks you have completed in a workplace or structured volunteering environment, signed off by a Workplace Representative from your workplace.
Session breakdown
Day 1: 4-hour trainer-lead online session plus 1.5 hours structured unsupervised activities (HLTAAP001 and HLTHPS006)
Day 2: 4.5 hours trainer-lead online session plus 1.5 hours structured unsupervised activities (HLTAAP001)
Day 3: 4.5 hours trainer-lead online session plus 1.5 hours structured unsupervised activities (HLTAAP001)
Day 4: 4.5 hours trainer-lead online session plus 10 hours structured unsupervised activities (HLTHPS006)
Day 5: 6-hour on-campus review and practical assessments (HLTHPS006)
After Day 5: Workplace assessment: Students must complete a workplace assessment under the supervision of an RN or other suitably qualified person to observe them completing medications assessments, and submit within 4 calendar weeks of the final training day. Supervision must be organised by the workplace.
