A group of Activ accommodation customers have been watching excitedly as their new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) homes were built in High Wycombe; and their wait is almost over, with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hawkesvale Vista development this week.
Activ customers, families and friends celebrated the opening with Disability Services Minister Hon Don Punch MLA, with tenants Angela, Gail, and Robert helping to make the opening official.
The eight newly-built homes are a project partnership between Activ, WAI Group, Community Housing Limited, Fortitude Living and Barwon Investment Partners.
The homes are architecturally-designed and exceed the NDIS requirements with improved livability, being fully accessible and suitable for high physical support needs.
The residences are close to amenities, comfortable, spacious and have merged outdoor and indoor living together to encapsulate spacious living and a sense of openness. They feature wide corridors and expansive living spaces, as well as step-free pathways for wheelchair users.
Activ CEO Michael Heath said the homes offered more choice in disability accommodation and would help Activ’s customers live life to the fullest.
He said they were very much looking forward to moving in. “Our clients are so excited!”
“We are very proud of our continuing relationship with WAI Group, Fortitude Living and Community Housing Ltd, to provide supported accommodation that improves the lives of Western Australians living with disability.”
Community Housing Limited State Manager Sean Kelly said the homes were another leap forward in the mission to make housing accessible to all people in WA.
“Often we see outdated homes for people living with disability in the metropolitan area that are not fit for purpose,” Mr Kelly said.
“Projects like this ensure people with physical support needs are getting modern places to live in the heart of our communities.”
The countdown to move-in day is officially on, and we can’t wait to see our customers settled in their new homes very soon!
