Kaide’s goal is to one day run his own lawn mowing business. He said his work with Activ’s Property Care team is helping him to learn everything he needs to reach his goal.
“It teaches me about using the equipment, know safety stuff, be confident working with the machinery,” he said, adding that working at Activ has also taught him how to be responsible, reliable, and the importance of getting to work on time.
Kaide is one of Activ Property Care’s youngest team members. He first connected with Activ through work experience while at school and liked it so much that it opened up a post-school pathway that he really enjoys. Kaide said he would recommend working with Activ, especially to students who may not yet know what they want to do after school.
“I love using the whipper snipper and I’ve made lots of friends,” Kaide said.
He said it’s “pretty cool” when talking about being one of the first people living with disability to be contracted by a mining company. Activ works closely with Iluka Resources in the South West on gardening and maintenance work. Kaide said he had to do special inductions and training to get on the job, but Activ helped him to complete it all.
“[Work] makes me feel like I’ve done a good job… making things look better,” he said. “I tell Mum about the jobs we do and she says, ‘good job Kaide’, and I feel proud.”
