Pull out those running shorts and hike up those long socks for a retro reflection as Perth’s premier community event, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ returns to celebrate 50 years this year!
It’s hard to believe five decades have passed since the first City to Surf for Activ saw 500 runners take to the streets of Perth, weaving their way towards the coast, up Heartbreak Hill, and down to City Beach. This was the beginning of what has grown into one of WA’s most iconic events, now drawing a crowd of over 20,000 who lace up to walk, run, or roll each year.
“The Chevron City to Surf for Activ has had many iterations over the years but it remains one of the most important fundraising opportunities for Activ, with all funds raised going directly back into improving the lives of people living with disability.” Activ Foundation CEO Michael Heath said.
“Last year’s event was the first back after a three-year COVID hiatus and it showed that people’s love for the Chevron City to Surf for Activ had grown stronger than ever before – we had families, serious runners, corporate teams, kids, people of all abilities, and even people older than me coming together in what was a day filled with camaraderie, laughter and lots of fun.
“This year’s celebrations are set to be even bigger, with the 50-year celebrations expected to inspire lots of extra fun, family activities, and importantly make a real difference in the lives of people living with disability.”
“Expect to see some old trends returning, with splashes of 70s-inspired fashion popping out amongst the sea of blue. Some retro looks and tunes will work together to create a truly celebratory vibe – you won’t want to miss it.”
Activ is also proud to announce the continuation of our long-standing event partnership with Chevron Australia as the naming rights partner of the Chevron City to Surf for Activ.
“Chevron Australia’s commitment to investing back into the community really resonates with Activ and the event, which uplifts opportunities, accessibility, and independence for all, but particularly those people living with disability in WA,” Mr Heath said.
Chevron Australia Managing Director Mark Hatfield said the company was delighted to join the community in celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the event.
“The Chevron City to Surf for Activ is one of the longest-standing and most loved community events in WA and we are proud to be a part of the team bringing it to the streets of Karratha and Perth,” Mark said.

The Chevron City to Surf for Activ’s 50th year was officially launched today (April 10) with an event in Forrest Place in Perth CBD. The launch included sandcastle competitions, a beat-the-professional runner race, and appearances from event ambassadors including Channel 7 and Nova personalities, and ex-Hockeyroos Captain Emily Chalker.
The Chevron City to Surf for Activ will take place in Karratha on Sunday, July 28 and in Perth on Sunday, August 25.
